Hatmehit is an Egyptian goddess attested as a fish goddess from the Fourth Dynasty and a goddess of the 16th nome of Lower Egypt. She is depicted as a woman with a catfish-like fish on her head, which she wears over a uraeus diadem, or as a fish on amulets. According to World History Encyclopedia, she arose from the totemic symbol of the nome around Mendes, which was a fish. Hatmehit was worshipped mainly at Mendes, and depictions of her are also found in Amun's temple at Hibis and in other temples and tombs in Egypt. With the god Banebdjedet (the Ram of Mendes) and Harpocrates she forms the Mendes triad. Because Mendes was a centre of perfume production, she was also associated with good scents. Her name is usually translated "Foremost of the Fish", although it is sometimes also understood as "Foremost of the Inundation". In later periods she takes on the iconography of Isis and Hathor, and from the Third Intermediate Period Isis began to take her role in the local cult.
