İmrə, also called İmere, Əmrə, Emire or Emre, is the spring jinn of Turkic and Altai folk culture and mythology. It is believed to make up the Cemre, the rise in warmth at the start of spring that comes at seven-day intervals: first in the air, then in water and earth. According to the source, the first Cemre falls into the air on 20 February. In spring İmrə appears and rises to the sky, giving off flickering lights. It then falls onto the ice and melts it, and enters the ground, so that steam rises from the warmed earth. In Anadolu folk belief the Cemre is pictured as a legendary ember that falls into the air, water and earth and warms them; an online encyclopedia calls them three embers sent by a genie at the end of winter. İmrə represents the coming of spring. Among the Bulgars it is known as Zemire, and the second source regards that jinn Zemire as the oldest form of the concept.
