When someone suffers a mysterious illness, the pillow feathers are examined: a clump shaped like a whole rooster means the illness is incurable, while if the head has not formed, the feathers are burned at a crossroads to cure it. In a Basque story about the sun, a brother tells men who are striking a rock to 'open the day' to go to sleep, because his rooster will be in charge of opening the day. When the rooster crowed 'kikiriki', dawn had already come.
