The term adaro is used in the mythology of Makira island in the Solomon Islands for two classes of beings. The word comes from the Arosi language and has meanings that include corpse, ghost, soul and spirit. According to Wikipedia, the Makira conceive of two souls in every person, and after death the aunga departs while the adaro stays behind. Fox recorded that a major class of adaro is made up of ghosts, and these are the ones chiefly worshipped. Ghosts most often enter sharks or other marine animals. Fox adds that such shark-ghosts spared their own worshippers yet were often dispatched by them to kill people far away. The second class are spirits that were never men, namely those of the sea, woods and shore plus others in the rainbow and the waterspout. According to Fox the sea spirits are shown as partly human and partly fish and believed to dwell far out at sea or close to small islands, and they are malevolent beings that shoot men with flying-fish. Wikipedia adds that one adaro guards, and another rules, the Rotomana, the destination of the aunga after death.
