Damysos was the fastest of all the Giants in Greek mythology. The Gigantes were a tribe of a hundred giants born of Gaia who waged war on the gods and were destroyed, and one list calls Damysos the swiftest Gigante, slain in that war. According to Photius's summary of Ptolemy Hephaestion's New History, Chiron exhumed Damysos's body, buried at Pallene, took out the astragale and incorporated it into Achilles' foot. The astragale fell when Achilles was pursued by Apollon, and Achilles, fallen, was killed. The Gigantes, according to Pseudo-Apollodorus' Bibliotheca, were born of Ge and were beyond rivalry in bodily size and might.
