The Vorota beast is a lake monster reported from Lake Vorota in eastern Siberia, Russia. The lake is one of several on the Sordongnokh plateau with similar sighting reports. The account of two Soviet scientists is recorded in the diary of the Labynkyr geological expedition kept at the Russian Academy of Sciences. On 30 July 1953 the geologists Viktor A. Tverdokhlebov and Boris Bashkatov were working by the lake. They reported an oblong grey-black body showing slightly above the surface, with two eye-like bright spots and a stick-like protrusion. Its head was estimated at about 6 feet wide, its body at 30 to 40 feet, with a large fin on its hump. In the 1960s other geologists also claimed to have seen a huge grey finned creature. A news article notes that besides local folklore about the "Devil" of Lake Labynkyr, some scientists have also reported a strange creature in nearby Lake Vorota; Tverdokhlebov described a large animal the size of an orca swimming near the surface.
